Eastern State Hospital
A hospital in Williamsburg, VA is seeking BC/BE Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Physician to assist with locum tenens coverage. Virginia Medical License is a MUST.
Experience working with an acute and chronic adult inpatient population is required. Details for the assignment are provided below:
Assignment:
• Available to start immediately (pending credentialing)
• Initial Appointment for 3-month assignment, with option to extend 3 -6-month assignment, if the position remains unfilled
• Full-time, 40 hours a week with assigned office hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm with 1 hour lunch break
• NOT approved for overtime
• No weekends, no holidays, no on-call duty
• Ability to provide cross coverage, to include forensic populations, as required
• Once a month, participation in Lunch Coverage Call (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
Qualifications:
• 3+ more years of experience as a Physician/Practitioner
• Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
• Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team
• BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required
Position Details:
• Facility Hospitalizations: Acute, Adult, Inpatient wards (male & female)
• Facility Demographics: Forensic, NGRI, Civil, Jail Transfer, and Geriatric populations
• Facility Stay: Short and Long-term length of stay
Caseload varies by ward and assignment (40-45)
• Psychiatry coverage is provided
• Full complement of interdisciplinary team members
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
• Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
• Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.
• Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
• Monitors patients’ progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
• Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
• Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
• Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.
• Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.
• Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
