Location: Health Services Department, FCC Petersburg, Federal Bureau of Prisons, 1060 River Road, Hopewell, VA 23860
Duration: The job is for an initial period of 120 working days, with the possibility of extending for another 120 working days.
Responsibilities:
- Provide in-house medical care for the inmate population, performing physical exams, collecting medical and social history, ordering appropriate diagnostic testing, and providing necessary treatment and/or medications.
- Refer selected cases to specialist consultants and inmates requiring hospitalization to community hospitals and appropriate admitting physicians.
- Adhere to accepted standards and regulations within the field of medicine, in compliance with Federal and State policies and regulations, as well as Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions.
- Monitor and document patient encounters in the electronic medical record and complete all necessary documentation by the end of the work day.
- Receive patients, explain procedures to alleviate anxiety, and follow directives in managing patient encounters.
- Provide impartial access to treatment and accommodations regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, or religion.
- Maintain an open line of communication with the Clinical Director, Health Services Administrator (HSA), and Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
Qualifications:
- Possession of a current and valid license to practice medicine in the state of Virginia.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the field of medicine.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain medical conditions and treatment options to patients with varying levels of health literacy
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers.
